Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 - Platinum

  • About

    The Watch

The Platinum Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 reference 5000H/000P-B058 is widely regarded as one of the most successful vintage-inspired chronographs produced by the manufacture in recent decades. The model pays tribute to the rare reference 6087 introduced in 1955, a watch admired among collectors for its unusual case architecture and elegant chronograph layout.

The defining feature is the distinctive set of lugs that flare outward — a shape that earned the original watch its “Cornes de Vache,” or “cow horns,” nickname. Recreating this form is far more complex than conventional lugs, requiring multiple angles and careful finishing to achieve the same sculptural effect seen on the historic model.

The opaline silver dial follows a classic two-register configuration with applied Platinum markers and an applied platinum Maltese cross , a blue tachymeter scale, and blued steel chronograph hands that add contrast and visual depth.

This example is crafted in platinum and was sold in 2021. When the Cornes de Vache was first reintroduced in 2015, the model debuted in platinum and remained in production in this metal for only a relatively short period. Today, the reference continues in the catalogue exclusively in steel and rose gold, making the earlier platinum execution notably more uncommon.

    The Movement

At the heart of the watch is the manually wound Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1142, a classical column-wheel chronograph movement visible through the sapphire caseback.

The calibre is finished to an exceptionally high standard and bears the Poinçon de Genève, a hallmark reserved for movements assembled and finished according to the strict traditions of Geneva watchmaking. The Geneva Seal stamp can be seen directly on the movement itself.

Its architecture follows the traditional approach to chronograph construction, featuring a lateral clutch and finely executed components. Decorative finishing includes Geneva stripes across the bridges, polished screw heads, and carefully beveled edges throughout.

Combining historical chronograph design with the finishing standards of one of Geneva’s most respected manufactures, the calibre reflects the spirit of traditional haute horlogerie.

    How It Wears

The Cornes de Vache offers a wearing experience that blends vintage character with contemporary comfort. The case diameter of 38.5 mm sits comfortably on the wrist, while the elongated lugs give the watch a distinctive silhouette that immediately sets it apart from typical chronographs.

In platinum, the watch has a reassuring weight that enhances the sense of quality without becoming excessive. The balanced dial layout remains clean and legible, and the subtle animation of the chronograph function adds a mechanical charm that enthusiasts particularly appreciate.

    Condition & Set

This Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 in Platinum  is available as a full set and is complete with its original strap, buckle, paperwork, boxes and certifications. The watch is presented in great condition with minimal signs of wear.

    Origin

The inspiration for the Cornes de Vache comes from a little-known but highly respected chronograph produced by Vacheron Constantin in the mid-1950s. The original reference 6087 was manufactured in very limited numbers and featured an unusual lug design that would later become iconic among collectors.

Decades later, Vacheron Constantin chose to revive the model within its Historiques collection, a series dedicated to reinterpreting important watches from the brand’s past. Rather than producing a simple reissue, the manufacture preserved the character of the original while elevating the finishing and movement to modern haute horlogerie standards.

Today, the Cornes de Vache is considered one of the most compelling modern chronographs inspired by vintage watchmaking — combining historical significance, distinctive design, and the craftsmanship expected from one of Geneva’s oldest watchmakers.
